Pentecost Sunday

At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descends upon the disciples and sends the Church forth to proclaim Jesus Christ. Mary had persevered in prayer with the apostles as they awaited this gift. Pray with her for a heart obedient to the Spirit and for the courage to work for the salvation of souls.

Three are the means, as the Masters of the spiritual life say with Bellarmine: Jejunium, periculorum evitatio, & oratio — Fasting, the avoiding of dangers, and prayer. By fasting is understood mortification, especially of the eyes and of the palate.
